ADHD/ASD SUPPORT GROUP
The NEW Wednesdays is back!
Wednesdays is a group set up
by parents of children with ADHD and/or ASD. The aim is to provide
support to other parents and siblings and a club for children with ADHD
and/or ASD.
Wednesdays primarily deals with families of children between the ages of 5 and 11.
In a past life Wednesdays has run work shops, had speakers, run a youth
club, done fun days and even provided a children only fun club on
Saturdays.
This website is designed for Parents of ADHD and ASD Children, their
siblings, carers and teachers and of course anyone else who may be
interested.
Our children have either been diagnosed
with or are waiting for a diagnosis for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD), Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Aspergers
syndrome.
We are a group of Parents that meet for activities and support in
Plymouth. Although still a relatively new and small group, our "bizarre"
children fit in nicely!!. Children with ADHD and ASD often find life
difficult within normal social parameters, their strange, bossy or
withdrawn behaviour can receive more jibes and taunts than caring and
understanding.
Wednesdays Club
The club
meets every other Wednesday (Next session 22nd April 2009) at Mutley Baptist
Church Hall
from 4.30pm until 5.30pm. The club is open to children with (or
showing signs of) ADHD and/or ASD, siblings and parents. This also provides the chance for
parents to get together over a cup of coffee.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The AGM
took place on Thursday 19th March 2009 at Plymouth
Guildhall, THANK YOU to those who attended. The minutes to the AGM
will appear on our Cclub Information page as soon as it has been agreed.
There were not enough applications for positions on the committee therefore
it was agreed that a SGM will take place in April to elect the new members.
If you are interested in a position on the committee please go to the
vacancies page for details of how to apply. The minutes are now
available on the Club Information page.

A child with any disability is a
challenge in itself, but invisible disabilities can cause additional
stress to the child and the rest of the family. A child with
ADHD/ASD is often seen as 'naughty' by outsiders who witness the tantrum
they might have in the supermarket.
There are some treatments and
medications that can help our special kids, but most of our difficulties
are with people who just do not understand our quirky little families.
Actually getting a diagnosis within
Plymouth is often a lengthy procedure, with as many ups as downs and
minimal support for parents. Our aim is to bring these more frequently
commonly diagnosed conditions to the forefront of others lives,
educating and having fun along the way, taking pride in our children who
are after all our future generations.
Be sure to leave some feedback in our
Guestbook, it helps us see that the site is working.
